The History of Spinning Sparrows

news and March from Feb-Mar-April 2011
March - The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, proxy hosted by Katie on Loran's behalf at Canal Bistro
Feb - The History of Love by Nicole Krauss, hosted by Jeni at Binkleys

April - Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann, hosted by Cris at Cancun

I swear I thought I wrote notes for Feb. Oh, well. here we go:

In February 11 of us met at Binkley's and discussed The History Of Love by Nicole Krauss.

Jeni wins the "most prepared" award. Nice job, Jeni.

At Alissa's suggestion, I re-read the book after this discussion. Anyone else?

In March, 8 of us met at Canal Bistro and six of us had garlic feta fries. I had a groupon and the dumb waiter (not to be confused with a dumbwaiter - i mean a real, live person. not a trolley for moving things between floors like on Webster) didn't understand the dessert order.

Some people are just not as bright as I'd like. Also, it was book club! Katie led us in a discussion (on Loran's behalf) of The Sparrow.

The book was super intense and complicated, so we kind of started with a summary, which led the discussion for the most part.

In April (last night, actually) 5 of met at Cancun and had a great discussion a la Cris about Let The Great World Spin.

Jill gave us an update on the chickens, which she does not carry around like babies, for those of you who wanted to know. Maybe that was just me.

Val shared her hilarious birth stories with Alissa, which i KNOW Alissa appreciated...Alissa, don't forget the most important question: "what kind of pushing?" this is critical.
there were margaritas. Alissa, who has no need for a "large virgin," got a small.

Looking ahead, here's what we have on the calendar:

May 2 (that's in THREE WEEKS ladies!) we'll meet at a to-be-determined location that Erin will share later to talk about St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. This is the second wolf-themed book that Erin has selected, for those keeping track. Val is.

June 6 is my turn. The book is I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, and I'll announce the location in May.

July 11 is Melissa's meeting. She'll confirm the book when we meet in May.

August 8 is Katie's meeting, and she's selected The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

September 16-18 is bunkbed weekend, and Jill will select the book.

Go team!
